Maundy Thursday is a service that commemorates the last supper that Jesus shared with his disciples on the night before his crucifixion.  The service derives its name from the Latin word for "command," (Mandatum) which and refers to Jesus' commandment to the disciples that they should "Love one another as I have loved you" (John 13:34).
